Does It Matter To Have Glamorous Housing Project Names?

We all know that housing projects have been given names which are more and more glamorous and fancy. Let’s take a lot of some examples.
- Recently I came across a banner highlighting the launch of Ficus Peak at Denai Alam, Selangor by Sime Darby Property. Wow, what a name! I don’t even know what is – Ficus. I end up searching through Google. Ficus is a type of tropical tree. Does that mean there will be a lot of greens landscape? Then does Peak here refers to hill/mountain? A better word to replace commonly used – Hill, Heights etc.
- Austin Suites serviced apartments, Johor Bahru – How do you relate Johor with Austin which is in Texas, USA? To add to my surprise, there is a township in Johor named Taman Austin Perdana. In actual fact, there is an office building named Austin Suites in Austin, Texas.

So we notice more townships have western names. Such exotic names are associated with high end luxurious housing project and they denote an esteem value for the owner of the house. The west has always been looked up to for its grandeur and contemporary lifestyle.
On the other hand, there are still developers who incorporate “local taste” into their projects.
- Dedaun – a luxury development of low rise condominiums at Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. Dedaun is a Malay word for leaf.
- Five Stones – a luxury high rise condominiums at SS2, Petaling Jaya. Why Five Stones? Five Stones is a type of traditional local children’s game.

Take a look of – How Kota Damansara Got It’s Name.
For years, the area was called Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh with little growth. Few developers came in to try luck and applied for a change of name. Once this area got it’s new name ie. Kota Damansara, the rest is history. Now Kota Damansara is one of the top hot spot in Klang Valley.
The word Damansara has more “value” and many other townships include the word Damansara to associate with high end living. For example, Ara Damansara and Star Avenue @ D’sara.
So do you think it matters to have glamorous housing project names? YES!!
I think this mindset has goes to naming our child. Haha. Don’t you think so?
