This week we will highlight some of the buildings which triumphed GOLD awards from 2014 PAM (Malaysian Institute of Architects) Awards.
The PAM Awards is a yearly premier award for architecture in Malaysia. The objective is to honor contributions made by architects, clients/owners and builders/contractors for architectural design excellence and advancement of quality built environment.
This year itself PAM received a total of 269 submissions for a total of 16 categories; 70 were shortlisted and 38 prizes were given out.
Of course we are unable to feature all award winning projects here, there are too many. Thus we have hand-picked a few based on my preference (sound a bit bias, right?)
Let’s look at PAM’s first award under category Single Residential Building.
SINGLE RESIDENTIAL BUILDING
Gold: House at Damansara, KL
Designed by: RT+Q Architects Pte Ltd
Jury’s comments: A very clean style of architectural character and form, with dramatic spatial and visual links to the existing house.
The winning tropical architecture concept was an extension of the old house on site. The brief was to build an annexe to the existing tropical-style house and create another identical set of spaces for extended use and where the owners can entertain and operate separately.
The architect is also put into challenge to maximize available space by creating a larger kitchen and a larger master bedroom suite. In addition to creating more internal space, RT+Q Architects has maximize the house’s garden space and add another lap pool.
The new addition was made to be as simple as possible with large spaces and differentiated from the original house by using abstract tropical styling.
